Salma & Fadi Heirloom Doll
I am Salma. I live with my 3 kids in a very dangerous area. My husband was killed because of the war. My two eldest kids work in a sewing workshop to earn our family some money. My youngest son Fadi who is only 5 years old makes me laugh a lot because he only dreams of getting married.
Through these dolls and embroidery, we want to portray the hopeful voices, colorful dreams and stories of war-torn children and their families. We want to spread the unheard, simple stories and aspirations of everyday people like you, people like me who are forced daily to flee their homes.
The names, struggles, and words of these people should be heard, vocalized and spread. They are the only ones who ALWAYS should matter in times of war.
Children are usually the most affected by war-torn areas. We believe they are the lost-generations. Their childhood is halted. Innocence scarred. Playing outside is threatened.
These dolls come from letters and drawings gathered from refugee children; their stories inspire the illustrations on each dolls. By giving them the chance to draw and express their dreams we also aspire to help heal their invisible pain through art and self-expression. These dolls are truly an heirloom and something to cherish.
Approx 12 inches tall. Handmade in Syria and Lebanon.
The cause this purchase supports: Each doll is given the name of a refugee and once sold, part of the proceeds will go back to that refugee. Additionally, creating the dolls gives income to women very much in need. All live in refugee camps and have little access to opportunity.
