Circa 1920-1940s, these antique Afghan earrings are a traditional design across many nomadic tribes in this region. Based on the jhumka style, the earrings are meant to jingle. The chains and leaf like pendants at the end of each chains produce an intentional sound, believed to bring positive energy and ward off evil spirits. Jhumkas also symbolize eternal life and spiritual awareness.
Mixed metal and silver alloy. The hooks have been updated for comfort to a non nickel finding. Measures approx 2 inches in length.
