19th C Pietra Dura Earrings
A stunning and rare pair of pietra dura hand carved earrings. Pietra dura is an Florentine (Italian) micro-mosaic style of art and for jewelry, the work required mastery of skill.
Small tulips were delicately carved and like a jigsaw, they were masterfully places into the carved background. This artwork originated in Italy during the renaissance and came back during the Victorian era. Most likely, the white stones are alabaster, the brown leaves probably agate, and the black backdrop being marble.
