Victorian Etruscan Revival Cuff

This antique cuff is inspired by the Italian excavations of Etruscan villages and graves, long lost to history. These excavations began in the early 1800s and the findings started to go in view in Europe by around 1860. In the immediate years, peaking in the 1870s-1880s, Etruscan revival jewelry was on trend. Designs were inspired by or exact reproductions of the elaborate Etruscan made pieces. The hallmarks of Etruscan revival jewelry are more matte appearances rather than high shine, filigree work, and granulation which added smaller detailed metal on another metal. 

This cuff is a kiss closure, it is from the 1870s-1880s and made in the UK. The deep red stones are made of  Vauxhall glass and resemble rubies or garnets, a popular stone in Italian Roman and Etruscan antique jewelry. The end pieces are likely brass and the cuff itself is rolled gold filled. It is meant to fit snug on the wrist.

Will fit a 6.5 inch round wrist at most.
